Writing: LAMY 2000 Matte Black - Fine Nib Fountain Pen + Iroshizuku fuyu-gaki (Vermilion Red Orange) Ink

There is a particular thing that happens when you write with a fountain pen. The pace changes. You cannot rush it. The ink requires you to slow down, to be deliberate with pressure and angle, and somewhere in that forced patience the thinking gets clearer. The LAMY 2000 is my fountain pen of choice, and Iroshizuku, fuyu-gaki (Vermilion Red Orange), is the ink I keep coming back to. When I need to work something out, before it goes to a screen, before it becomes content, it starts here. Wet ink on paper. The slowest, most honest version of the thought.

I have always sketched with Blackwings and I always will. It is a pressure thing. The way the graphite responds, the way it gives you exactly what you ask for without fighting back. But the connection goes deeper than preference. When Robert Mason was open, we were one of the first retailers to carry them. Blackwing told me that in the years the store was open, more 602s were sold through Robert Mason than any other retailer. The store we lost in the 2014 fire is where they debuted. People were seeing them for the first time, a pencil from the past brought back to the present by the Palomino Pencil Company. They were discovering something that felt like it had always existed but had been waiting to be found again. I know that feeling.
